1963 Jaguar XKE Series I Roadster Heads to Auction After $8k Refurbishment
A 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster, originally delivered through Frankfurt dealer Peter Lindner, is offered for sale in California following a recent $8,000 paint and detailing programme. The matching-numbers car retains its 3.8-litre inline-six and Moss four-speed manual.

A 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster that was completed at the factory on 21 May 1963 and delivered new through the German distributor Peter Lindner in Frankfurt is now being offered for sale by a dealer in California. The car, which was later brought to the United States under previous ownership, has been the subject of more than $8,000 in paintwork and detailing commissioned by the selling dealer after it was acquired in 2026.
The E-Type is finished in blue, a colour change from its original factory shade of Opalescent Maroon carried out at some point under earlier ownership. It is powered by a 3.8-litre inline-six engine factory-rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, breathing through triple SU carburettors and feeding a stainless-steel exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The engine oil and clutch fluid were changed in July 2026, and portions of the engine bay and underside were cleaned with dry ice the same month.
The car rides on 15-inch wire wheels secured by two-eared knock-offs and fitted with BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tyres. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the brake fluid was changed in July 2026. A white convertible top is fitted, and the sale includes a removable body-colour fibreglass hardtop. Series I E-Types are distinguished by covered headlamps and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers, and this example also features a louvered clamshell hood, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and wraparound bumpers with guards.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black leather with bucket seats and a colour-coordinated upper dashboard, centre console, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include textured aluminium dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a push-button Blaupunkt radio. The interior was cleaned as part of the July 2026 detailing work. A drilled-spoke steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6,000-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage sit in the centre of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 47,000 miles, approximately 20 of which have been added under current ownership.
Documentation accompanying the car includes a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, which confirms the original colours and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates. A record from I Am Detailing of Costa Mesa, California, notes that the car underwent paintless dent repair, wet sanding, and paint correction in July 2026. The XKE Series I roadster is offered with a clean California title.
