Where our material comes from, how we work with sources, and how we correct mistakes

Three kinds of material

Newsroom material. Articles written for this publication. They are the smallest part of what we publish and the part we stand behind most directly.

Material based on open sources. Reports worked up from agency copy, official statements and registers, or other outlets’ reporting. Where a story originates elsewhere, the article carries a link to the original.

Automated material. The largest part of the daily flow. These texts are prepared with the help of artificial intelligence from news feeds, following the rules of this publication.

What automation can and cannot do

AI-assisted preparation has known limits. It can misread nuance, drop context that mattered in the original, or carry forward an error already present in a source.

So we make no claim to first-hand reporting on the automated stream, and we do not present it as independent investigation. We treat every article as correctable, and we would rather be told about a mistake than not.

Independence

Editorial content is kept separate from advertising and promotional material. Where sponsored items appear, they are marked as such. No advertiser decides what we cover.

Updates and corrections

When information changes or an error comes to light, we update the article and its modification date. Substantial corrections keep enough of the original context that a reader can see what changed. See Corrections for how to report a problem.
