A 2014 BMW i8 showing only 2,900 miles on its digital odometer is being offered for sale in California, giving collectors a rare chance to acquire one of the earliest examples of BMW's plug-in hybrid sports car in near-delivery condition.

The car was initially delivered to BMW Santa Barbara in California and is finished in Crystal White Pearl Metallic over a Pure Impulse Carum Spice Grey full leather interior. It is being offered on behalf of the owner with a window sticker, the owner's manual, a clean Carfax report and a clean California title in the owner's name.

The i8 pairs a mid-mounted, turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-three engine driving the rear wheels through a six-speed Aisin automatic transaxle with an electric motor that drives the front wheels via a two-speed automatic transmission. Combined output was rated at 357 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque when new. The car features three driving modes, and standard equipment includes Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Damper Control, Cornering Brake Control and a Brake Energy Recuperation system.

Its construction is central to its appeal. The i8 uses a carbon-fibre and aluminium unibody along with chemically hardened glass, a combination that helped make it one of the most technically ambitious production cars of its era. This example is finished in Crystal White Pearl Metallic with BMW i Frozen Grey accents, and its equipment list includes a vented hood, LED headlights with cornering illumination, Park Distance Control parking sensors and scissor doors.

The car rides on 20-inch Style 625 alloy wheels mounted with Bridgestone tyres, while stopping power comes from cross-drilled and ventilated rotors at each corner. It is specified with the Pure Impulse World Package, which brings the 20-inch wheels, LED headlights, Park Distance Control, heated front seats, an Anthracite headliner, BMW i Blue seat belts, Ambiance lighting, Active Driving Assistant, a head-up display and a Harman Kardon sound system.

Further equipment includes auto-dimming mirrors, BMW Assist, Comfort Access, a rearview camera, automatic climate control, cruise control and iDrive infotainment with navigation. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Pure Impulse Carum Spice Grey full leather with a two-tone dashboard and door panels, and the leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel is fitted with paddle shifters and frames a configurable TFT LCD screen.

Service records noted in the listing include replacement of the fuel pump and fuel pump module in June 2021, while the most recent oil change was carried out in November 2025. The vehicle most recently passed a California emissions test in July 2026, and the Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage.

The original window sticker confirms initial delivery to BMW Santa Barbara in California and lists standard and optional equipment alongside a total suggested retail price of $149,250. For buyers drawn to the i8's blend of composite construction, hybrid drivetrain and dramatic scissor-door styling, the combination of low mileage, documented history and factory specification makes this a notable offering among early examples of the model.
