Rare 1993 AM General Hummer Heads to Auction

A four-door hardtop civilian Hummer from 1993, one of only 612 built that year, is offered for sale with royal provenance and a recent mechanical overhaul.

A rare civilian version of the AM General Hummer, the military-derived off-roader that became a symbol of American excess in the 1990s, has been listed for sale. The 1993 four-door hardtop is one of just 612 civilian Hummers produced for that model year, according to the listing, making it a scarce example of a vehicle that has since become a cult classic.

The truck's early history is unusual. It was imported to Saudi Arabia in 1994 and is said to have been relocated to Morocco by its first owner, described as a member of the Saudi royal family. It returned to the United States in 1996 and subsequently spent time in North Carolina and Georgia before being purchased by the seller in 2019. It is now offered with a clean Carfax report and an Oklahoma title carrying a «Classic» designation.

Finished in a repaint of gray over black leather, the Hummer left the factory in red, according to the seller. It is powered by a 6.2-litre Detroit Diesel V8, factory-rated at 150 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, linked to a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The drivetrain also includes front and rear Zexel Torsen torque-biasing differentials. In April 2026, the belts were replaced, an oil change was performed, and the transfer case and differentials were re-sealed, with the transmission fluid also changed.

Equipment includes a clamshell fibreglass hood, LED headlights, a split windshield, sliding rear windows, a bed liner, a brush guard, rocker panel guards, a receiver hitch, and steel bumpers with recovery points. The 17-inch five-spoke wheels were reportedly sourced from a Dodge Ram and are mounted with 37×12.50-inch Mickey Thompson Deegan 38 tyres, with a spare attached to a rear swing-away carrier. The truck features an independent suspension with portal axles and four-wheel inboard disc brakes.

Inside, the cabin houses four high-backed bucket seats trimmed in black leather with quilted accents that extend to the door panels. Amenities include carbon-fibre trim, a locking centre console storage compartment, manual-crank windows, air conditioning, auxiliary switches, and a Pioneer touchscreen head unit linked to a Rockford Fosgate amplifier and speakers. The air conditioning system was recharged in April 2026. An aftermarket steering wheel sits ahead of a 140-km/h speedometer and auxiliary gauges for battery voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 86,000 kilometres, approximately 53,000 miles, of which about 1,000 were added under current ownership.

The exterior is not without flaws. The glass in the driver's mirror is broken, and other imperfections are shown in the gallery. The Hummer's combination of military-derived engineering, celebrity association, and limited civilian production has made it a sought-after collector vehicle in recent years, particularly in original or well-documented condition. This example's royal provenance and recent servicing may attract interest from buyers looking for a usable piece of 1990s Americana.
