A 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, modified from new with DP Motorsport 935 slant-nose bodywork for the American importer Fred Opert, is offered for sale with 49,000 miles and a clean history.

A rare 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, modified from new with DP Motorsport 935 slant-nose bodywork, has been listed for sale by a dealer in North Carolina. The car was originally purchased by Fred Opert, the former race driver and owner of Fred Opert Racing of Ramsey, New Jersey, who served as the American importer for DP Motorsports.
The Targa is finished in Guards Red over black leather and is powered by a 3.2-litre flat-six engine paired with a G50 five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. It shows just under 49,000 miles on the odometer, approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership since the car was acquired in 2024. It is offered on consignment with a clean Carfax report and a South Carolina title that carries an «Exempt» vehicle brand.
The DP 935 I conversion, developed by Design + Plastic (DP) Motorsport, gives the car its distinctive flat-front appearance with vented fenders, pop-up headlights, a 930S-style bumper with integrated fog lamps, side strakes, revised skirts, and flared rear fenders. Ducts for the front oil cooler and brakes were also part of the package, along with front and rear spoilers and dual side mirrors. This example retains a revised Targa roof bar and a black removable roof panel. The seller notes various cracks in the fibreglass bodywork.
DP Motorsport was founded in the early 1960s by Ekkehard Zimmermann and later collaborated with Kremer Racing to develop a series of successful competition Porsches, including the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning Kremer K3. The US-spec DP 935 I kit brought that racing-derived aesthetic to road cars, and this particular car is believed to be one of a small number converted for the American market through Opert’s operation.
The car rides on 16-inch BBS RS wheels fitted with BFGoodrich G-force Sport tyres measuring 225/50 at the front and 255/50 at the rear. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs. Inside, the cabin features front sport seats upholstered in black leather with power height adjustments, a heated driver’s seat, an Alpine CD stereo with ADS speakers, a K40 alarm, an aftermarket shift knob, cruise control, air conditioning, a heated rear window, and power windows and locks.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation, including a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline, a DP-branded 200-mph speedometer, a Quarz clock, and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer reads 49,000 miles.
Under the bonnet, the 3.2-litre M930/25 flat-six features Bosch Motronic engine management. Work carried out in 2023 included changing the engine and transaxle oil and replacing the spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, oil temperature sensor, and crankshaft position sensor. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage.
The car is now offered for sale through a BaT Local Partner dealer in North Carolina. With its documented single-owner history from new, low mileage, and period-correct DP Motorsport conversion, it represents a rare opportunity for collectors of modified air-cooled Porsches. The auction listing highlights both the car’s provenance and its condition, noting the fibreglass cracks as the primary cosmetic flaw.
