Italian manufacturer Angelelli Automobili has unveiled early renderings of its new Tipo 829, a mid-engined supercar it hopes will establish the marque as a serious player in the exclusive high-performance market. The car has been previewed in three distinct configurations — Strada, Terra, and Pista — each aimed at a different driving environment, from public roads to rally stages and racetracks.

At the heart of the Tipo 829 is a 3.2-litre V6 engine producing 500 horsepower, with all-wheel drive fitted as standard. The car adopts a traditional low-slung, mid-engined supercar silhouette, though Angelelli has pushed the windscreen forward so that it sits in line with the front axle. According to the company, this should make the cabin feel notably spacious despite the car's compact footprint.

The Tipo 829 takes its name from the Lancia Stratos, which was known internally by the same Tipo 829 designation. Angelelli has not disclosed whether the new car uses a bespoke platform or borrows architecture from an existing model. The firm has so far released only a handful of low-resolution renderings and a limited set of technical specifications, leaving significant questions about the vehicle's underpinnings and production viability unanswered.

Of the three variants, the Pista is the most extreme. It is shown with a flamboyant white, green, and red Alitalia livery and is designed primarily for racetrack use. It features a new front splitter, canards, a bespoke bonnet and front quarter panels with aerodynamic louvres, new side skirts, and a large fixed rear wing. There is no word on whether the Pista benefits from mechanical modifications beyond its aerodynamic package.

The Terra variant focuses on mixed-surface driving, positioning it as a rival to machines such as the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato. It is intended to perform well in rallies and hill climb events. Although it appears to sit just as low as the Pista in the released images, Angelelli says the chassis will be set up for uneven surfaces, with more suspension travel and a higher ride height. The Strada completes the trio, oriented towards on-road performance.

Visually, all three versions share the same basic shape. The front sits low with a pronounced splitter, an LED light bar, and a vertical LED light. The design language is consistent across the range, with the Pista distinguished by its aggressive aerodynamic additions and the Terra by its raised chassis setup.

Angelelli Automobili previously teased the 300-mph Superpeformante D-One hypercar in 2022, a project that has yet to reach production. The company's track record raises questions about whether the Tipo 829 will advance beyond the rendering stage. Designing and developing a new supercar is considerably easier than producing one at scale, and without confirmed funding, the project risks remaining vapourware.

The Tipo 829 could fill a space in the market largely abandoned by established supercar manufacturers, particularly with its rally-inspired Terra variant. However, until Angelelli provides firmer details on production plans, pricing, and a timeline, the car remains a design study rather than a confirmed addition to the high-end exotic market.
