Ford has opened order books for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E, and the electric SUV now carries an extended-range battery as standard equipment across the range at no additional cost. The move brings the entry price of the long-range version below $40,000, sharpening the model's appeal in an increasingly crowded electric vehicle market.

The extended-range pack was previously an optional upgrade on the Mach-E. Making it standard simplifies the buying process and means every 2027 model benefits from the additional range without customers having to navigate a battery choice. Ford has not yet published official range figures for the revised line-up, but the change effectively lowers the cost of accessing the longest-range version of the vehicle.

A new Trail trim also joins the Mach-E family for 2027. The variant features lifted suspension, giving the electric crossover a more rugged stance and greater ground clearance for drivers who want a vehicle suited to rougher surfaces. It marks the first time Ford has offered a trail-focused specification on the Mach-E, extending the model's reach beyond its traditional road-oriented positioning.

The pricing and specification changes come as Ford seeks to maintain momentum in the electric SUV segment, where rivals have been cutting prices and expanding standard equipment to attract buyers. By bundling the larger battery into the base specification, the company is effectively reducing the effective cost of range — a key consideration for consumers weighing up electric vehicles against petrol and hybrid alternatives.

The Mach-E, which carries the Mustang name, has been one of Ford's most visible electric models since its launch. The 2027 update represents a mid-life refresh focused on value and versatility rather than a wholesale redesign, with the standard long-range battery and the new Trail variant the headline changes.

Order books are now open, with Ford expected to confirm further details on range, charging performance and UK pricing closer to the start of deliveries. The sub-$40,000 starting point for the extended-range model positions the Mach-E competitively against other electric crossovers offering similar battery capacity.
