BMW Teases First Electric iX4 Ahead of Imminent Debut
Skoda has introduced its first full hybrid powertrain, offering the Octavia with two hybrid options producing up to 168 hp and featuring a 1.6 kWh battery for short electric-only driving.

Skoda has unveiled its first full hybrid powertrain, marking a significant expansion of its electrified lineup. The Czech automaker, which already sells five electric vehicles and three plug-in hybrids, has until now never offered what it calls a full hybrid. The new system will debut in the Octavia, available in both Hatchback and Estate body styles.
The Octavia hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with two electric motors and a single-speed automatic transmission in a series-parallel configuration. The smaller motor functions as a generator and engine starter, while the larger unit drives the front wheels and recovers energy during braking. A 1.6 kWh battery pack allows for roughly 1.2 miles of electric-only range at low speeds.
The powertrain automatically switches between three modes depending on driving conditions. Below approximately 37 mph, the car can operate in series hybrid mode, where the combustion engine powers a generator that supplies electricity to the traction motor. Above that threshold, it shifts to parallel hybrid mode, relying on the petrol engine for propulsion while the electric motor provides additional support.
Two versions of the 1.5-litre TSI engine will be available, rated at either 129 hp or 148 hp. Combined system output stands at 134 hp for the base configuration and 168 hp for the optional setup. Both variants share the same battery pack and electric motors, and both have an electronically limited top speed of 112 mph. Skoda has not yet disclosed fuel economy figures.
The hybrid powertrains will be offered in Selection and Sportline trims. Compared with conventionally powered Octavias, these models gain additional standard equipment including a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment system. They also feature unique «Hybrid» badging on the liftgate.
Orders for the Octavia hybrid open this month, with first deliveries scheduled for December. Pricing has not been announced, though the mild-hybrid Octavia Selection starts at 689,900 Kč in the Czech Republic, providing a rough benchmark for the new full hybrid's positioning.
The launch represents a strategic step for Skoda as it broadens its electrification strategy beyond battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models. By adding a full hybrid to its range, the brand aims to offer customers a more accessible electrified option without the need for charging infrastructure, while still delivering improved efficiency over conventional petrol engines.
