1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Heads to Market After Decades of Single-Family Ownership
A right-hand-drive 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III, kept by one family from 1972 to 2021 and refurbished between 2012 and 2013, is offered by a selling dealer with a Texas title and a list of known flaws.

A 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III that remained under single-family ownership for nearly five decades is being offered for sale by a dealer, bringing a well-documented example of the marque's final coachbuilt-era saloon to the open market. The right-hand-drive car was held by the same family from 1972 until 2021 and underwent a refurbishment completed between 2012 and 2013.
The Silver Cloud III is finished in gray and silver, with the lower panels wrapped in white, a treatment the selling dealer believes was applied when the body was refinished around 2013. Red pin-striping, replacement chrome bumpers and polished fender mirrors complete the exterior. Factory 15-inch steel wheels carry polished covers and whitewall tires said to have been installed in 2012. The car rides on an independent front suspension with wishbones and coil springs, while a live rear axle with leaf springs handles the rear.
Power comes from a 6.2-litre V8 fitted with dual carburetors, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission reported to have been rebuilt in 2015. Service in 2012 is said to have included replacing the fuel lines and battery. The selling dealer notes that the engine weeps oil, the exhaust requires work and the generator needs a rebuild. The brakes were reportedly serviced during the refurbishment, though the dealer observes that the pedal is hard and the system may need adjustment. Corrosion is also noted on the chassis.
The cabin offers two rows of bench seating trimmed in gray leather, said to have been cleaned and re-dyed in 2012. Rear passengers are treated to picnic tables, footrests, vanity mirrors, a folding centre armrest and grab handles, while the specification also includes power windows, burl wood trim and a heater. The headliner was replaced during the refurbishment, but the radio is broken. A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a burl wood dashboard housing a 120-mph speedometer, an analogue clock and a combination gauge for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage and coolant temperature.
Door sill plates indicate initial delivery through Mann Egerton & Co. Ltd of Berkeley Street, London. The five-digit odometer shows 27,000 miles, though total mileage is unknown. Noted flaws include a crack in the windshield, a misaligned right-front door latch and corrosion on the left-front fender. The car is offered with a Texas title that notes the VIN certification has been waived.
The Silver Cloud III represents the closing chapter of Rolls-Royce's separate-chassis tradition, and examples with long-term family history and documented refurbishment work tend to attract collectors seeking usable rather than concours-condition cars. This example's combination of original delivery records, a known ownership chain and a transparent account of its faults places it firmly in that category.
