A 1998 Chevrolet Corvette convertible built as part of the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition is being offered for sale with just 661 miles on the odometer. The car is one of 1,163 examples produced to commemorate the model's role as the pace car for the 1998 running of the Indianapolis 500, and it has spent most of its life in collections.

The car is finished in Medium Purple Pearl Metallic over black and yellow leather interior. Under the long hood sits a 5.7-liter LS1 V8, factory rated at 345 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, paired with a four-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. The C5 generation convertible is now offered by a dealer in Missouri, with a window sticker and a Texas title.

Visual details reflect the special edition's motorsport theme. The body carries yellow stripes, red accents and Indy Pace Car decals, along with a black convertible soft top, pop-up headlights, fog lights, a Corvette-branded front plate cover and quad exhaust outlets. The five-spoke wheels are yellow-finished, measuring 17 inches in diameter at the front and 18 inches at the rear, and are fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. Four-wheel ventilated discs handle braking, while Active Handling and traction control are standard.

Inside, two power-adjustable bucket seats are trimmed in black and yellow leather. Equipment includes a head-up display, driver seat position memory, dual-zone automatic climate control, a CD stereo with a Bose sound system and cruise control. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a speedometer reading to 200 mph and a tachometer with a 6,000 rpm redline, alongside gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage and fuel level. The digital odometer shows the 661 miles.

The window sticker records initial delivery to Preakness Chevrolet in Wayne, New Jersey, and a total vehicle price of $50,199. The Carfax report shows at least one open recall, and the current Texas title carries an "Exempt" odometer reading, meaning the mileage is not certified by the title.

The offering follows a long-standing practice in which Chevrolet sold replicas of Indianapolis pace cars to the public. A 1978 Corvette pace car replica recently listed for sale with just 57 miles, also an unusually preserved example of the tradition, shows how collectors continue to seek low-mileage pace car editions from the marque.
