Ianis Doană delivered a remarkable individual performance on Saturday, scoring four goals in 45 minutes as Politehnica Timișoara crushed Concordia Chiajna 5-1 in Romania's Liga II. The 18-year-old midfielder opened the scoring in the fourth minute, completed a hat-trick by the 23rd minute, and added a fourth shortly after the interval in a derby that pitted two promotion contenders against each other.
Doană, who began his career at CSM Reșița, joined Dinamo Bucharest this summer before being allowed to leave for free to Timișoara. Dinamo retained 30 percent of any future transfer fee and holds a buy-back priority over other interested clubs, according to reports. The teenager had previously scored three goals in the second tier last season while on loan at Steaua Bucharest, meaning his latest display already equals that tally in a single match.
The result was particularly striking because Concordia Chiajna had won all three of their opening league matches this season and recently demolished Oțelul Galați 5-1 in the Romanian Cup. Timișoara, newly promoted from the third tier, had targeted promotion to the SuperLiga, and the emphatic away victory signals their intent. The win also came in a round where Dinamo secured their first victory under coach Ionuț Chirilă, beating Chindia Târgoviște 2-1.
Doană's performance has already attracted attention beyond Romania. Dinu Bara, Politehnica Timișoara's general director, confirmed that clubs from the Netherlands are monitoring the player, referencing the region where former Romania international Cristi Chivu developed. Bara discussed the interest during a live broadcast, though no formal offers have been made public.
Speaking after his initial move to Dinamo, Doană expressed excitement about joining a club with such a rich history, noting that he had also been courted by U Cluj. He chose Dinamo because of their reliance on young players and their ambition to compete at the top of the table. He signed a three-year contract with an option to extend, saying he was motivated by his development rather than financial terms.
That enthusiasm did not translate into first-team opportunities, and he returned to the second tier within weeks. The arrangement with Timișoara appears designed to give him regular playing time while preserving Dinamo's financial interest in his future. His four-goal display suggests the strategy is already paying dividends for all parties involved.
