MINI has introduced a Best of British Edition range for China, bringing Union Jack-inspired styling to four Cooper variants, alongside a three-car Union Jack Edition priced at RMB 298,888.

MINI is leaning on its British heritage with a new special-edition range for the Chinese market, applying Union Jack-inspired styling to four versions of the Cooper. The lineup, called the Best of British Edition, spans the all-electric MINI Cooper, the three- and five-door hatchbacks, and the combustion-engined convertible.
The name references «Cool Britannia», the cultural movement that emerged in the United Kingdom during the 1990s. MINI says the era brought renewed attention to British art, music, film and fashion, while traditional symbols such as the Union Jack were reinterpreted for a new generation. The special editions follow a similar template to Europe's Oxford Edition and America's Heritage Edition, applying the flag's red, white and blue palette across the range.
The electric Cooper receives the most straightforward treatment, with red or blue paint and a white roof. The petrol-powered hatchbacks are offered in six colours — three shades of blue, Storm Gray, British Green and Chili Red — all paired with a white roof. Buyers choosing the convertible get a fabric roof with a Union Jack motif and the Stardust Grey body colour, which is not available on the hatchbacks.
MINI has gone further with the detailing. A Union Jack graphic runs across the bonnet and continues towards the rear, where it becomes a full-width design on the roof spoiler. The cars feature Union Jack-coloured floating wheel centre caps that keep the logo upright while driving, along with Union Jack valve caps. A dual-flag badge at the rear combines the Union Jack with a chequered flag, a nod to the brand's British origins and racing heritage. Red, white and blue door-sill plates complete the theme.
The most exclusive offering is the Union Jack Edition, based on the electric Cooper, of which just three examples will be produced. Rather than adding stripes and badges, MINI covers the entire body in the British flag. The limited-run model is priced at RMB 298,888.
Applying the design was not a simple task. MINI spent three months modelling the scheme and conducted more than 100 trials to adapt the asymmetrical Union Jack to the car's curved surfaces. The final design uses 74 individual separation lines. The factory applies three layers of paint across nine stages, with red, white and blue applied separately. Experienced craftsmen then hand-finish all 74 separation lines before the final clear coat is applied.
The result is a Cooper that functions as a rolling British flag, and with only three units planned, the Union Jack Edition will be considerably rarer than a typical special-edition MINI. The broader Best of British Edition range gives Chinese buyers a more accessible route into the same theme, with the flag motif spread across the electric, hatchback and convertible models.
For MINI, the move reinforces a strategy of using its national identity as a differentiator in overseas markets. The brand has previously drawn on its British roots for regional special editions, and the China launch extends that approach to the world's largest car market. The Best of British Edition and the three-car Union Jack Edition are available in China now.
