Sephora is entering the live-shopping arena with a new monthly series of exclusive product drops on TikTok Shop, a move that places the beauty retailer among the few major US companies using the platform to sell a broad range of third-party brands. Beginning September 19, the Sephora Drop Shop will offer curated selections of goods through a format that combines teaser content, creator-led promotion, and real-time video selling.

The campaign is built around a reveal structure designed to build anticipation. Sephora will first post teaser videos encouraging consumers to guess which brand will be featured. The promotion then culminates in a TikTok Live hosted by a celebrity, brand founders, or creators, during which the mystery brand and its products are unveiled. Viewers can watch demonstrations, ask questions, and interact with hosts before purchasing featured items directly through TikTok Shop without leaving the live stream.

The initiative marks a significant step for Sephora, which had not previously committed to live commerce despite the format's rapid growth in markets such as China and its increasing adoption in the United States. By joining TikTok Shop, Sephora follows QVC as one of the few established retailers offering a wide assortment of external brands through the platform, signalling a broader shift in how traditional beauty retail is approaching social commerce.

Bianca Sing, global head of strategic partnerships at TikTok Shop, said the launch demonstrates how the platform enables established retailers to tap into its creator network and adopt new formats for brand storytelling. In a statement, she described TikTok Shop as complementary to retailers' existing channels, giving them fresh ways to introduce products, hear directly from consumers, and drive growth both on and off the platform. She added that the Sephora Drop Shop exemplifies how live shopping can reshape product launch strategies by using teasers and creator-led content to build anticipation and answer questions in real time.

The arrangement is expected to benefit both the retailer and its customers. Brands gain more direct engagement with shoppers during the live sessions, while consumers receive early access to new products before they appear elsewhere. Items featured in the monthly drops will launch exclusively through Sephora's TikTok Shop, with select products later rolling out to, physical Sephora stores, and other retail partners including direct-to-consumer sites and Sephora at Kohl's.

The move reflects a wider industry trend as brands seek more authentic connections with consumers through interactive video content. Live shopping, long popular in Asia, has been gaining traction in Western markets as platforms like TikTok invest heavily in commerce features. For Sephora, the partnership offers a way to reach younger shoppers who increasingly discover beauty products through social media rather than traditional advertising or in-store browsing.

Industry observers will be watching whether the Drop Shop format can generate the kind of sustained engagement that live commerce has achieved elsewhere. The monthly cadence and mystery-brand element are designed to create recurring interest, while the involvement of celebrities and founders aims to lend credibility and entertainment value to the sales pitch. If successful, the initiative could encourage other major retailers to follow suit, accelerating the mainstream adoption of live shopping in the US market.
