A 1956 Chevrolet Corvette race car built by two-time SCCA West Coast Champion Paul Reinhart is being offered for sale, carrying a racing pedigree that spans more than six decades. The car, a continuation B-Production machine, pairs a 1957 Corvette body with a 1956 chassis and incorporates preserved race parts from Reinhart's 1957 championship car.
Reinhart won SCCA B-Production titles in 1961 and 1962, and the car's history is closely tied to his competition career on the West Coast. He raced it in vintage events in the 2000s and made eight appearances at the Monterey Rolex Reunion. The Corvette has also been displayed in the Corvette exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, where it has been shown to visitors interested in the marque's competition heritage.
The livery takes its inspiration from Union 76 oil cans, a nod to the Oakland gas station where Reinhart worked. The colour scheme links the car to his early working life as much as to his racing success, giving it a personal character beyond its performance credentials.
Under the bonnet is a 292ci small-block V8, destroked from a 350ci block. It runs dual Carter carburetors on a Winters aluminium intake manifold, with ported Chevrolet "turbo" heads and Ferrea stainless valves. Power is sent through a Super T-10 four-speed manual gearbox and a Positraction limited-slip differential, with 4.11:1 gears. A 12-gallon fuel cell sits in the trunk, and the car is set up to run on 110-octane gasoline.
The chassis uses independent front suspension, uprated sway bars and QA1 adjustable rear shocks. All four wheels are fitted with heavy-duty drum brakes using Carbotech shoes, while 15-inch polished wheels carry Hoosier racing tires. Safety equipment includes a roll bar, four-point harnesses, a fire suppression system and a battery cutoff.
The car is offered on consignment by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, and comes with service records, log books, race programs and spare parts. It carries a clean Washington title. The dash shows no odometer reading.
Documentation shows some points that remain unresolved. The title VIN, E56S003055, is consistent with a 1956 car, but the log book cites E57S106340 as the 1957 championship car. The chassis is said to have been sourced for a 1956 build, though its full provenance has not been confirmed. Prospective buyers will need to weigh these details alongside the car's documented racing record.
