Nissan to revive Pixo name for new electric city car
Nissan will unveil a new entry-level electric city car called Pixo on 23 September, based on the Renault Twingo and positioned below the Micra in its European EV line-up.

Nissan is reviving the Pixo nameplate for a new entry-level electric city car, set to be unveiled later this month. The A-segment EV will sit below the Micra as the starting point of Nissan’s European electric line-up and will be built by Alliance partner Renault alongside its own Twingo model.
The new Pixo will be revealed in full on 23 September, with Nissan describing it as a model that will “bring fresh, fun character to the compact EV segment”. The company says the car was “created for modern urban life”, combining compact dimensions with intuitive technology and distinctive Nissan design. A short teaser video, featuring a retro arcade game aesthetic, hints at the design direction.
While technical specifications have not been officially disclosed, the Pixo is expected to mirror the Renault Twingo’s powertrain. That would mean an 80bhp front-mounted electric motor powered by a 27.5kWh battery, offering a range of around 155 miles. As with the Micra, which is a reworked version of the Renault 5, the Pixo is likely to be closely matched with its Renault sibling on price, with reports suggesting a starting price of around £17,000.
The Pixo name has European heritage, having previously been used for a reworked version of the Indian-market Suzuki Alto sold in the UK from 2009 to 2013. At that time, it was one of the cheapest cars on sale in Britain, priced from £5,995. Nissan had hinted it would use an established nameplate for the new city car, with earlier speculation pointing towards the Wave name.
Autocar has previously reported that the new model will channel the design spirit of Nissan’s 1980s Pike retro cars, a theme echoed in the teaser’s nostalgic arcade visuals. The Pixo will become the entry point to Nissan’s expanding European EV range, which also includes the Micra, the new Leaf, and the larger Ariya.
