A 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition showing just 500 miles is offered for sale after remaining with a single family and undergoing recommissioning work, including fluid services, new brake calipers and tires, and air conditioning servicing.

A 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition with only 500 miles on its odometer is being offered for sale, having reportedly remained with a single family before its acquisition by a dealer. The car is a special-edition example of the C3 Corvette, finished in the model's signature two-tone black and silver livery with a red stripe below the blend line.
Preparation for the sale included fluid services, replacement of the brake calipers and tires, and servicing of the air conditioning system. The battery and alternator belt were also replaced. The selling dealer notes that the differential fluid was changed as part of this work. The car is accompanied by a window sticker, manufacturer's literature, a box of pace car graphics, and a Michigan title marked as a duplicate.
Power comes from a 350ci L48 V8, factory rated at 185 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, linked to a three-speed automatic transmission and a Positraction differential. The odometer shows 500 miles, approximately 30 of which were added under current ownership. The car rides on 15-inch eight-slot alloy wheels wrapped in 255/60 Goodyear GT Radial tires installed in 2026. Braking is handled by four-wheel power-assisted discs.
The exterior features removable glass T-top roof panels, pop-up headlights, side marker lights, fender air vents, sport mirrors, and quad taillights. The power antenna does not extend. The 1978 Corvette introduced a revised fastback roofline with wraparound rear glass, and all Pace Car examples were finished in the black and silver scheme with a red stripe.
Inside, bucket seats are trimmed in silver leather, matched by a colour-coordinated dashboard, centre console, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include an AM/FM stereo, cruise control, power windows, a tilting steering column, and air conditioning. The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a non-operational 7,000-rpm tachometer. Gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level sit in the centre stack.
The window sticker lists standard equipment and options, a total vehicle price of $13,923, and initial delivery to Rowe Chevrolet of Milan, Michigan. The Pace Car Edition was created to commemorate the Corvette's role as the pace car for the 1978 Indianapolis 500, and examples have become sought-after by collectors for their distinctive livery and low production numbers. This car's exceptionally low mileage and single-family history before dealer acquisition make it a notable offering among surviving Pace Car Editions.
