1992 Ferrari 512 TR with 49k Miles Heads to Auction
A 1992 Ferrari 512 TR, one of 408 delivered to North America, is offered on dealer consignment after 25 years of single ownership in California. The car shows 49,000 miles and has recently undergone a major engine-out service.

A 1992 Ferrari 512 TR, one of just 408 examples delivered to North America between 1992 and 1994, has been listed for sale on dealer consignment. The car has remained registered in California since new and was purchased by its current owner in 2001, who has since added approximately 27,000 miles to its 49,000-mile total. It is finished in the classic Rosso Corsa over Nero Connolly leather and is accompanied by a clean Carfax report and a clean California title.
The 512 TR was introduced in 1991 as the updated successor to the Testarossa, with Pininfarina revising the bumper covers, wheels, and lighting. This example retains its pop-up headlights, fog lights, side intake strakes, body-colour rocker panels, and quad exhaust outlets. The front lip spoiler is cracked, and there are chips in the windshield and paint, with close-up photographs of these blemishes included in the gallery. The car rides on 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels mounted with a mixed set of Yokohama and Toyo tires, while braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs.
Inside, the cockpit is trimmed in Nero Connolly leather over the seats, door panels, and lower dashboard. Ferrari-branded floor mats line the footwells, and amenities include motorised seat belts, a gated shifter, air conditioning, and power windows. Wear is visible atop the cluster binnacle, on the seat bolsters, and on the centre console, and the shift knob is cracked. The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation, including a 200-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,200-rpm redline, plus gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature. A clock and auxiliary gauges for fuel level and oil temperature are housed in the centre stack.
Power comes from a 4.9-litre DOHC flat-12, which received updates over the version used in the Testarossa, including Nikasil cylinder liners, a redesigned intake system, and Bosch engine management. Output was rated at 421 horsepower and 362 lb-ft of torque when new. An engine-out timing belt service is said to have been completed in July 2026 by Dino Motors of San Mateo, California. Additional work at that time reportedly included adjusting the valves, changing the oil and coolant, and replacing the spark plugs, water pump seals, valve cover gaskets, and camshaft seals. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential, and the transaxle fluid was changed in 2026.
The six-digit odometer shows 49,000 miles, approximately 27,000 of which were added under current ownership. The Carfax report is free of accidents or other reported damage. The 512 TR remains a significant model in Ferrari’s lineage, bridging the gap between the iconic Testarossa and the later F512 M. With its flat-12 engine, gated manual gearbox, and Pininfarina styling, it represents a high point of early 1990s supercar design. This example’s long-term California ownership and recent major service make it a compelling proposition for collectors seeking a usable classic.
