Dominique Frot keeps moving between prestige cinema and new projects

Dominique Frot’s 2026 slate is a useful reminder that a durable acting career is not always built around a single franchise, leading role or publicity cycle. The French actress has spent decades moving between theatre, art cinema, genre work and mainstream comedy. Her latest projects follow the same pattern: one major thriller with a firm release date, a new comedy already shot, a completed fantasy film and a parallel commitment to mentoring younger performers.

The headline project is Karma, directed by Guillaume Canet. The psychological thriller screened out of competition at Cannes this year and is scheduled to open in France on October 21. Marion Cotillard and Denis Ménochet take the central roles, with Leonardo Sbaraglia and Luis Zahera also prominent in the cast. Frot is included in production and representation records as part of the ensemble. The film was shot across Spain and France in 2025 and is now fully positioned for its autumn release.

Le Pire du milieu is less advanced publicly but just as concrete as a production. The comedy, directed by Éric Judor, filmed in Île-de-France between late September and the end of October 2025. Crew United lists Frot among the actors and Gaumont as distributor. The title has shifted during development, which is common in production, and a final release date has not yet been consistently published. That means the sensible approach is to watch for Gaumont’s calendar rather than repeat an unverified date.

Frot’s third notable project, Les Âmes en peine, moves into dark fantasy. Quarxx’s film is set in a 19th-century village where a mysterious “Black Evil” leaves its victims in a prolonged state between life and death. The story uses that crisis to bring science, religion, fear and family violence into the same closed world. The film is marked completed, and Frot appears in a cast that also includes Thierry Frémont, Jean-Baptiste Maunier and Ophélia Kolb.

There is also a leadership dimension to her year. In April, Frot took part in the third Festival International des Jeunes Acteurs in Paris. She is part of the FIJA team and presided over the film-school short-film jury in the Pass Culture program. The festival has already begun taking submissions for 2027. For an actor with a long record of teaching, stage direction and script reading, the role is more than a ceremonial detour. It is a practical way of shaping what comes after her own generation.

Her recent releases show the same range. God Save the Tuche put her inside one of France’s most recognisable popular comedy franchises, playing Lady Gin To. La Tournée, released in June 2025, gave her the role of Madame Closier in a road comedy about actors and the promotional machinery around film. Dites-lui que je l’aime, released in December, is much more intimate: Romane Bohringer’s personal film about mothers, memory and abandonment, in which Frot appears as Dominique. The film continued to travel through international festivals in 2026.

Her official site adds Scènes de ménage, Nébuleuse and Triple je to the list of projects labeled “in production.” The timing needs caution because parts of that page still carry 2025 festival information. Those titles can be treated as part of her declared pipeline, but not as firmly dated releases.

The practical lesson from Frot’s current workload is about career architecture. Longevity comes from keeping options open: supporting roles can lead into radically different worlds, festival work can create connections outside the immediate film set, and a familiar face can continue to surprise if the choices are not all made for the same audience. With Karma arriving in October and several projects behind it, Frot’s 2026 is less about a comeback than about sustained professional momentum.
