Betty Bromage, 97, returns to the wing after a stroke

Ten years after first climbing onto the wing of an aircraft, Betty Bromage is still going. The 97-year-old Briton completed another wing walk on 4 August, extending the record she holds in the female category. Bromage did not begin the pursuit until she was 87. Guinness World Records verified her as the oldest female wing walker in 2022, at 93 years and 145 days. Her latest flight was reported as her sixth. There was a more personal reason for returning to the air in 2026. Bromage suffered a stroke last year and used the attempt to raise funds for Cheltenham General Hospital, where she had been treated. Her achievement is the female record rather than an absolute age record. Guinness reported that Harry Heasman, aged 98, set the corresponding male record in May.
