BMW has revealed one of the most striking specifications yet for its flagship electric sedan, the i7, finished in a vivid Maldives Blue Individual paint that transforms the appearance of the large luxury EV. The car was recently delivered in Romania, where BMW's local operation welcomed the i7 60 xDrive with a turquoise-like shade that gives the substantial electric 7 Series a lighter, more relaxed presence on the road.

The Maldives Blue finish is part of BMW's Individual catalogue and carries a price tag of €6,900 in Germany, reflecting the premium the manufacturer places on bespoke exterior colours. While the cost is considerable, the result is a car that stands apart from the typically conservative palette chosen for luxury saloons. The colour's turquoise undertones work particularly well on the i7's expansive body surfaces, softening the visual weight of a vehicle known for its massive road presence.

To complement the striking paintwork, the specification includes BMW's M Sport Pro Package, which brings extended black accents across the exterior. These dark elements contrast with the bright blue body colour, appearing on the lower front bumper section, the side mirrors and the boot lid spoiler. The combination creates a two-tone effect that emphasises the car's aerodynamic lines and sporty proportions despite its size.

The wheels are equally distinctive. This i7 rides on 22-inch Individual V-Spoke 1099 I aerodynamic alloys, a significant upgrade over the standard fitment. In typical BMW fashion, the wheels feature a two-tone design with black accents that tie in with the dark exterior trim, reinforcing the car's cohesive appearance. The large diameter of the wheels fills the arches effectively, giving the electric flagship a planted stance.

Inside, the no-expense-spared approach continues with Individual Merino leather upholstery in Smoke White, a light shade that brightens the cabin considerably. A matching white Individual steering wheel further distinguishes this car from a standard 7 Series G70, though its pale finish may prove challenging to keep clean over time. The interior also features the 14.6-inch passenger-side display as standard equipment, a screen that remains optional on the new X5 but comes fitted to every 7 Series.

The i7 represents the electric variant of BMW's flagship luxury sedan, a model that has become a showcase for the company's most advanced technology and customisation options. The Individual programme allows buyers to specify paint colours, leathers and trim combinations far beyond the standard range, catering to customers who want their vehicles to reflect personal taste rather than conform to conventional luxury car aesthetics.

BMW is preparing a significant update to the 7 Series range. Chief executive Oliver Zipse has described the forthcoming facelift as «the most extensive model revision in BMW's history», with the revised 7 Series and i7 expected to make their public debut at the Beijing Auto Show. The facelifted flagship will feature a cleaner design and a new interior, according to the company.

Beyond the standard 7 Series, BMW's newly established ALPINA brand is developing even more exclusive versions of both the flagship sedan and the next-generation X7 SUV. The current G70 sedan will become the G72 under ALPINA, while the G67 SUV will morph into the G69, with distinctive design changes inside and out. These more exclusive models are expected to retain large combustion engines while also offering fully electric powertrains, broadening the appeal of BMW's most luxurious offerings.

Rumours also suggest that the next-generation X7, codenamed G67, could receive a Theatre Screen in the rear, with a 31.3-inch full-touchscreen display serving both entertainment and business duties. Such a feature would extend the screen-heavy approach already seen in the 7 Series, where rear passengers can access similar technology.

For now, this Maldives Blue i7 demonstrates how far BMW's Individual programme can push the appearance of its electric flagship. The combination of a bold, expensive paint finish, dark exterior accents, large aerodynamic wheels and a bright white leather cabin creates a specification that is unlikely to be mistaken for anything else on the road. It shows that even a heavy, imposing electric saloon can be configured to make a very different kind of statement.
