BMW has reportedly accelerated the US retail launch of its new electric SUV, allowing dealers to begin selling and delivering the iX3 50 xDrive from Wednesday, September 16 — nine days earlier than the previously expected date of September 25. The change was shared in a notice said to have been sent to BMW dealers on September 15 and posted by a member of the Bimmerpost forum, who attributed the move to strong customer demand. BMW of North America has not publicly confirmed the adjustment.
The earlier date does not guarantee that every buyer can collect a car immediately. Delivery still depends on where a particular vehicle is and when an individual dealer has it ready. One forum member said their iX3 had reached a California port a few days before the notice, while another commenter reported that their Nashville dealer had no vehicles available yet. Sales staff are said to be reporting that pre-orders are coming in steadily.
The US launch begins with the 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive, the first model to bring the company’s Neue Klasse technology to American customers. Its two electric motors produce 463 horsepower, and BMW quotes a zero-to-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds. Prices start at $61,500 before a $1,350 destination charge. The SUV offers up to 434 miles of EPA-estimated range, while its 800-volt electrical architecture supports DC charging at up to 400 kW. BMW says a suitable charger can add as much as 231 miles of range in about 10 minutes.
More is riding on this launch than the arrival of another electric SUV. The iX3 formally introduces Neue Klasse technology to the United States, including BMW Panoramic iDrive and the brand’s latest electric drive system. A first drive found that the changes showed up in the driving experience as well as on the specification sheet. While the rest of the world has had some time behind the wheel of the iX3 — with some deliveries occurring as early as March 2026 — the model is entirely new to American buyers.
Demand has been steady in other markets. BMW added a third production shift to keep up with sales, and the brand recently claimed the iX3 garnered 100,000 orders in Europe within its first year on sale. Every third BMW EV order in Europe is now an iX3, according to the company. A recent independent range test offered another reason for buyers to pay attention.
Moving a launch date is not unprecedented, and the decision is unlikely to surprise observers. For American customers who have been counting down to late September, the wait may now be shorter than expected. The first US buyers with cars ready for delivery could get to form their own impressions sooner than planned.
